Echolocation signal structure in the Megachiropteran bat Rousettus aegyptiacus Geoffroy 1810.
Rousettus aegyptiacus Geoffroy 1810 is a member of the only genus of Megachiropteran bats to use vocal echolocation, but the structure of its brief, click-like signal is poorly described. Although thought to have a simple echolocation system compared to that of Microchiroptera, R. aegyptiacus is capable of good obstacle avoidance using its impulse sonar. The energy content of the signal was at ...
متن کاملGeographical distribution of vampire bat-related cattle rabies in Brazil.
Seventy-seven rabies virus (RV) isolates originating from Brazilian cattle were genetically characterized. Partial nucleoprotein gene sequences of these isolates were phylogenetically and geographically analyzed. Cattle isolates, which clustered with the vampire bat-related RV group, were further subdivided into nine genetic subgroups. These subgroups were distributed widely in lowland regions,...

متن کاملVampire Bat Rabies in the Americas
Vampire bats belong to the Desmodontidae family. Three species live in tropical and sub-tropical America. The most important one is Desmodus rotundus a medium size bat (Figure 1). These bats feed on blood of vertebrates and are very adapted to this diet. They take nearly 15ml of blood per meal. They live in colonies in humid caves or in splits of trees. In the colony, they show strong social li...
